Title: Another allotment site in danger
Post by: moonbells on February 21, 2007, 17:56:45
I just received an email from an old A4A poster, and it's the same old story: here's what he said, so I thought I'd tell folk here cos a lot more people read this than my diary! hope this is OK Dan...

I am currently petiting no.10 to save our existing Allotments from being
turned into housing estates we here at Canterbury in kent are down to the last 7
sites of which our local council does nothing my particular plot/site is
under  threat from such house building even though there has been Allotment here
for  over 60 years
I would be most gratefull if you could let people know about our petition

DONE! And I've sent the link to many many thousands of other people as well. It never ceases to amaze me ... the Govt. bang on about the 'health of the nation', 5 portions a day etc.and then sell off allotment land so we have to buy supermarket s**te. Disgraceful  >:(

All done!  Thanks Moonbells, for bringing it to our attention.  It is a scandal! Will be interested to see Monty Dons programme this Friday about allotments and how come the demand to have one is so overwhelming but the alloments to be had are rapidly decreasing!  >:( busy_lizzie

Dont forget to involve the National Association of Allotment Gardeners if you haven't already - they have a little influence!

I had to go into town for a meeting on the train this morning and noticed a huge tract of unused land right by the railway line !!!

I wonder what good an e-mail to Glasgow District Council Land Services might do.

It's probably Rail Track land (or whoever they are these days) but I'll think on it later.
