Has anyone got a good solar powered security light? We have no street lights and could do with something to light our way to the car! I've found a few online for around 40 quid, but don't want to buy one if it'll only work if the sun's shining all day. Can anyone recommend one?
I bought a Guardman shed light and found that it gives hardly enough light to see things in the shed. A hurricane lamp is much better.
So my thoughts on this are 'Don't buy before you see it in use at night or you may be disappointed'. You might be much better off getting a rechargeable lamp which you could take with you in the car. There are some very good ones available now.
Thanks for the reply, but I actually want one for the front of the house to stop me (and vistors) falling down the rather high step on to the road!
Put in a mains-powered light if it's attached to the house. If it's the sort with a movement detector, it'll deter intruders as well.
Just trying to be green, Robert- and to save some work!
get some floesent paint and paint the edge of your step :)
Been meaning to do that for years!
mother in law had same problem and the council did it for her...
Not solar powered, but we have a smaller security light than normal. The tube in it is only 150 watts (the normal ones are 500 watts). It is mounted above our front door, and the PIR is adjusted so that it picks movement up at around 15 feet only, which means that it doesn't come on whenever someone walks past the end of the front garden. The length of time it stays on for is also adjustable right down to only a few seconds.
Since we had a porch light previously, which we used to switch on every time we went out and were expecting to get home after dark, I think that despite the higher than a light bulb wattage, we are actually using less power than previously, because it only lights up on approach and stays on for around a minute only.
