Post by: northener on February 18, 2007, 20:02:50
Hello. Recently inherited 2 Banties and 1 Maran all ok apart from the Maran getting its neck feathers plucked by the small Bantie. Any ideas how to stop it poor things begining to look like a Turkey.

Is one of the banties trying to be top hen? if so try putting 2-3 dishes of food down so they dont have to eat together a couple of dishes of water try it for a week. Pecking order should not last longer than a week or so.
Are the banties pullets?

2 perches might help as well so they don't have to sleep together too.  I agree the pecking order is usually sorted out pretty quickly.

Erm i'm not sure what a pullet is. Like i say i got them off a guy who had to give some land back to the council and he knows less about chickens than i do. He told me the Maran was about 3 months older than the 2 Banties. The Maran seems really docile where as this Bantie is a real live wire.

Just wondering if one of the banties is a cockrell and may be making advances towards the Maran?
