Title: Pea Sticks
Post by: Mrs T on February 17, 2007, 07:25:46
Hello - I know this could sound like a daft question, I am new to allotmenting so please help me!
I know I need to grow peas up twiggy sticks/pea sticks.  Where do I get these from?  Do I collect twiggy sticks from trees or do I buy them?
Thanks Mrs T

Mrs T - most people use their tree/shrub prunings, if they have enough.

Last year, I stretched pea netting between two pallet planks, supporting the top by threading string thro and that worked really well.  When finished, it was easy to pull down the growth and then roll up the 'pea frames' for use next (this) year.

I was new to the game last year and brought a few bundles of canes from the pound shop. They last ok if you look after them its just the cost to start you off.

If you use the willow twigs Bluebird you have to strip back the bark to stop it taking...
