Hi Gang,
Been to the plot today and my cabbages look like there not getting much bigger, i was wondering if there was a feed that i can give them??
Cambourne7
I wouldn't normally feed them until March, but it has been warm, a gp fertiliser like growmore, or if you are really certain the cold has gone you can't beat urea for putting on leaf!
;D
but 2 public for me to try that !!
i will pick something up then
Our Lottie shop sells it as nice ,white, smell free crystals....
:-[
smell free crystals
Now I have heard everything. ;D
Likewise Teresa. :-[ ;D ;D ;D
You need to give cabbage nitrogen at this time of the year, it will do them more good than growmore, make an handfull do about 5 plants, put it as close to the stem without touching it as possable, got to go and do mind tomorrow as long as it keeps drying the soil out today.
what organic nitrogon can i use? Would coffee work???
again I fall back to my urea....
;D
again i cant see me doing that :P
chicken muck, rooster, cheap and lots of all sorts in it :)
Go on cambourne don't be shy give it a go. :-[ ;D ;D ;D
i am definaly not dropping my knickers on the plot - mucky minded men :-)
Although i do have some chicken manure so i will add this do i just add the pellets or do i add it to water and feed?
I just sprinkle it around..and I'm talking about the chicken muck ! :D
If they are overwintered spring cabbage they should start to grow if left alone as soon as it warms up a little .
But if you want to give them a boost ..A sprinkling of sulphate of ammonia around the base of them and lightly raked in will help them along... As Richard says Don't let it touch stalk or leaves ..... Cheers Jim ...
thanks guys :-) I will pop out tomorrow and do the dead with the chicken muck :)

Pee into a bucket and then carry that to the allotment or even transfer it to empty lemonade bottles to carry it.
Make sure nobody really thinks it is lemonade but it is hilarious to see the facial expressions especially when they realise what it was. ;D
Spring cabage need a high nitrogen feed to boost the leaf growth ie sulphate of nitrate. But if you are not happy with that and want to be more organic try Fish Blood and Bone
i thought male is better than female??
It is, slightly, but she-pee's not far behind! ;D
If you've got a bucket with a well-fitting lid you should be fine.
By the way, it's also great for helping the compost heap along!
Are you lot taking the P
Definatly a lot of extracting the urine
