Title: I got me some shelter!
Post by: Mrs Ava on May 03, 2004, 18:23:25
Brother did it rain today in not so sunny Essex!   >:( In fact, it persistently p*ssed down nearly all day, so much so, my lawn has puddles on it!   :o However, a drop of rain doesn't bother Ava and down to the plot he went, hammer and nails in hand, and I am now the proud owner of a shed!  ;D  Of course, sitting here now at 6.15pm, the sun is shining and the sky is blue, so all being well,I shall be down on the plot tomorrow to admire his handy work and plant my caulis.

;D

Oh Pat, I so totally depressed!    :'( It hasn't yet stopped raining and it is so cold, so I haven't been up to the plot to see my new penthouse!   >:(   I have been down the greenhouse though and done some potting on.  ;D  As soon as I get up there I shall take some snaps to stick in the gallery!

As for the shed warming party, goes without saying, a good excuse to finish that bottle of sloe gin!  ;)

Now you have shed, you can sit in it and not get wet while it rains - that's bin the best use I've had out of mine - tis beautiful!  I love my shed  :)  I've got an old radio in there now, cos it rains more than not up here in sunny sheff  8)  I feel like stereotype allotment person now (except female and under 50)

Happy shed using... :)

Well done to Ava for the shed, don't know how we would manage without one, it was on site when we took it. Now has a (wee!!) lean-to attached (built by Bill) for the spades, forks, chairs and folding table as the shed is full of pots, compost, bags of lime etc etc.  Bill is one of those men who throws nothing away and everything eventually comes in useful for someone!
Enjoy.

Here it is in all it's glory.  Ava purchased it for me second hand thru an ad in the local rag.  I feel all official now, it looks like a proper lottie shed!  Just you wait til I have slapped some paint on it and it is full of our clobber!  ;D (http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0PAAAAH4RmQcF39zJt6qS8zvKJ*fQv!pgs13N7Rskruh1StmzCcwBpmdC*NbN17KacndlmzqWpwAOtXjfie8pqVZVjh9H*Wqc/shed.jpg?dc=4675470915258725174)

And just to bore you, as I had the camera with me, a couple of shots looking down the plot.  The apple trees are smack bang in the centre and are full of blossom.

Looks great EJ - not bad for second hand :)  The plot looks good too, makes me quite envious.  How lucky to have the lovely apple trees. Lets hope the weather cheers up so you can make good use of your new shed :D :)

Great shed, EJ.  Ours doesn't have windows but I suppose that means no one can see the clutter!.. Lottie looks smashing.

have no shed but was hoping to be able to get one from the free-ads...but...have just received letter from council- all sheds are to be of a certain size, colour and style because they don't want allotments looking like 'shanty towns'. Where is the sense in that? You can put up any old shed, whatever colour you like in your back garden, which is overlooked by neighbours; but you can't in an allotment, where you are still free to use scarecrows, plastic bottles, old buckets as planters etc.
Feel an angry letter to the council coming on!

We too are restricted on size Ross, friend built from scratch this marvellous edifice! Had to remove half of it as it was deemed too big :'( And there was me ready to move in with me 2 kids!! :o Unfortunately I haven't the space on mine to put a shed, it is all put over to veg at the mo :( So my car is my shed!!

We are allowed a shed per plot. However it must be no bigger than 6x4.  Not too bad really, manage to get everything I need in there (even me in a shower) :D Our problem is the kind gentleman whos house is at the end of our allotments (all 6 of them) He is constantly complaining to the council about the state of the allotments.  Give us a break, we have only been there since November.  He even wrote to the council to say that the end plot nearest his house has an 'untidy compost heap'  Well I mean, you have got to laugh haven't you? Anyway, a hedge has been planted between him and us so he will just have to wait for 5/6 years until it grows to block us out.

Mimi I would rather look out on a lottie with an untidy (hahaha) compost heap, than on a row of houses! Some people just live to complain! ;D

Perhaps the untidy compost heap needs a pretty carpet over to cover it. ;D

And maybe moaning neighbour would like to supply it from his living room! ;D

EJ - lovely shed. Bet it's come in handy for rain-dodging!

Ava was a little concerned as it is a big shed and it isn't new by any stretch of the imagination, and to make matters worse, the site secretary's garden overlooks the plots, and where our shed is, is probably her best view of the plots! However, he spoke to her and she is so totally cool about it.  She is over the moon that all the plots are now being used, the site is looking great, like grown up lotties!!!!
