Title: Purple Mange Touts
Post by: Doris_Pinks on February 13, 2007, 03:57:02
I am sure I have seen them on here somewhere, or were they purple podded peas?
Anyone out there know if they exist, and if they do where I can buy them,

Thanks
DP

I've grown the purple (and yellow) podded mange tout. I've also got a few heritage seed library seeds in a recent swap just called "purple podded peas" - so there are definitely both, though whether they are that different I don't know yet...

Thanks Sprout! You were up early too huh! ;D :D

CC thanks for that, I wasn't sure wether I was imagining it or not, now I know I wasn't! ;D

I grow the Heritage Purple Podded fron HDRA

which you can eat as Mangetout when very small, raw in salads. They loose a lot of colour even when stir fried... Not a true Mangetout because they soon develop that inedible parchment in the pod wall...

DP, If I still have some left, which the lovely Multiveg sent me a couple of years back, I will send them to you.  My lot weren't keen - wanted to know were the peas were - heathens!
