I thought you might like to read about a new seed bank being built.

What a sensible idea. Thanks for posting that link.
Thanks for link
Interesting, thanks
Seed doesn't last forever, even in a seedbank; it needs to be grown eventually, and new seed harvested for storage. Who'se going to be dealing with that I wonder, and where are they going to be grown? Svalbard certainly won't be suitable for growing very much!
agree, following out last cold weather holiday we wanted to go to Svalbard this year if we can afford it and i would love to visit this place - just a shame theres not a visitor centre or something like that....
I imagine the seed will be replenshed as and when they need to.
Its all a bit Orwellian and frightening to me
Holding 3 million seed samples actually doesn't seem that much to me.... ???
Not when you think how many different seeds A4A members have got between us !! ;D
We could probably set up a LLAA seed bank on our own Deb!
;D

Odd location... Assuming an asteroid does strike, super-volcanoe erupts or we are plunged into nuclear winter... That part of Norway will be deeply covered in ice, due to dust blocking out the sunlight ::)
