Why do we bother giving plants latin names?.
Lets face it, When you go to a garden centre do you ask for a particular plant by its common name or latin one.
I dont know much about this, but , is it a case of the latin name came first ???
cj :)
what would gardening experts do without their fancy latin names ;D
One of the reasons that botanical names are useful is that they provide a single identification for a plant, all over the world - whereas common names differ from country to country. A lot of the botanical names aren't really latin, they just look like it and sometimes use the same rules of grammar.
