My little pond that is. Next week is half term and I was thinking that the urchins and I could give the old pond a bit of a spring clean and sort the plants out. Is this the wrong time to be doing anything like this??
Hi Emma, I'm waiting for this cold spell to go away then I shall be taking out all the overgrown plants on the ledges of my pond to re-pot them. The water is pretty cold right now, so not a good time methinks!!
Tricia
Warmer weather for me too, fish in pool and sleeping.
When they start moving around so do I ha ha.
right-ey-ho. I will save that job for the Easter break then. Thanks for your help. ;D
It's too cold to be getting your hands in the pond. (http://www.depressionforums.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/cold.gif)
I've got to clean out my filter box and replace the UV tube in the round thing that the water goes through, I can't think what it's called now.
I'm going to put all the green icky goo on my compost heap when it's been built.
To blooming cold and wet! ;D Haven't been able to get out in my garden all week because of all the rain. GGRR. Oh well.....Easter isn't that far away.
Tony's out there today cleaning his pump and putting it inside the special box he made out of two plastic trays. (the ones you used to get mushrooms in) He does it at this time every year because the frogs start coming back in their droves to mate and if they get near the pump they get their poor legs stuck in and they can't get out. We don't clean the pond until the taddy's are all gone (fish eat them) last year we got a pond vac from Garden Warehouse. We haven't tried it yet. Hope it does a good job.
Well, we are going to make the pond bigger!! He did oik out some leaves and clean out the filter and pump today, and then we had a chorus of froggies singing, and making whoopee! That is a new one for our pond, they don't normally spawn for us! ;D
Thanks for asking Emma, i had the same question myself.
My pond looks very overgrown at the moment and i always get frogspawn so i was wondering whether to clear it up a bit before my little ones arrive, now i am not sure what to do ::)
Maybe we might get a nice sunny day and i will be whipping plants out with gusto ;D
I went out to check the pond today and ended up tiding up the plants, removing the green icky goo( cannot for the life of me think what it is called). As I lifted out one of the plants spotted a frog swimming across ledge.
The pond was new in Nov 2005 so this is the first one I have seen. How quickly do frogs grow? My son was given some frog sporn last year, it was kept indoors in gold fish bowl until it became small frogs and then a few were put onto beach part of the pond so wondering if this is one of those frogs. Unfortunately found some of the small frogs dead on the floor in the house - had not realised they would be able to jump out of the round sloping sides of the goldfish bowl from a rock that was partially submerged- however will know next time.
