hi just got a pack of pumpkin seeds for the grandkids but it dosent say when to plant do i start them in the green house or not thanks
I start mine at the beginning of May, 2 seeds to a pot inside a plastic bag in my airing cupboard until they show through, then on a windowsill and remove the weaker seedling, , so that would be into your greenhouse for a couple of weeks, then harden off and plant out at the beginning of June as long as the frosts have finished.
Hope that helps.

Not before May here...

I sow winter squash under glass in April, so they are ready to plant out after the last frosts, generally late May ...

My packet says May.
I planted mine, big max, last year on 31/03, planted out 23/05 and went on to come second in the local show. Much to my grandaughters delight, she asked me to grow it.
Nice one Les. :) :) :)
A topic Grow Your Own Veg program on BBC2 tonight at 2030hrs is about growing pumpkins & squashes
You are of course trying to avoid the frosts but if you have a greenhouse there is no reason not to start early. I find transplanting larger plants not to be a problem so a succession of sowing works really well. The same goes for courgettes and marrows
I planted mine early may last year in the greenhouse and the did well,123lbs was the biggest, but make sure you don't over water the compost before they germinate or the seeds rot (as i found out year before)
Thanks all will plant in may will let you know how big they get lol
