Title: Gardener's Question Time

did anyone catch the name of the plum tomato B Flowerdew recommended today as the best for cooking with for taste (but not good as a salad)? Was it SCATTOLONE??

yup, or I could just listen to the repeat on the radio.

yes you're right, I remember, and I saw the pizza thing. Seeds of italy sell it I see, but i've already ordered from there.....

surely radio 4 aren't b*ggering about with GQT now as well?? Isn't the repeat on Wednesday??
I've been avoiding Radio 4 anyway, after The Archers Outrages.

You're right, RT. I always thought Sunday's prog was the repeat -  probably confusing it with the Archers omnibus...

yes, saw it in Wilkies today. Wasn't sure if i wanted the other varieties in the pack though. I'll think about it. Bought some red shallots instead.

As GQT is recorded anything up to a month in advance of the first broadcast, does it matter which is the repeat?

yes these were the ones I ordered, before I heard Mr Flowerdew on GQT. These are a San Marzano type, but seem to be intended for storage, so maybe not quite as good as San Marzano proper. It probably makes no difference, i mean, whoever heard of a homegrown tom that wasn't nice?

A neighbour of mine tried growing the variety they use for tinned tomatoes, whatever it is. He said it was extremely juicy, and totally tasteless.
