Title: Rhubarb Question
Post by: cambourne7 on February 04, 2007, 12:16:58
Hi Guys,

I covered my rhubarb bed in the winter with some straw and only 2 of the 5 crowns have popped up.

Should i be more patient or have i lost them?

I transplanted some last September. Thought I had lost it. Couldnt see anything for about 6 weeks. Over the past month it hs come through fine.

I would wait & be patient.  ;)

We split our 3 crowns into about 12 last autumn and they've recently been mulched with chipped bark.  No signs of life yet but I'm happy to wait another few weeks before I start stressing about them.  I don't expect activity before mid March here and after last year's winter it was mid April.

Bags of time yet. The rhubarb growers up in South Yorkshire are having a rough time because it hasn`t been cold enough over the past couple of years. Rhubarb needs a cold spell so a straw covering is not always the best idea.
