Title: my plot
Post by: sawfish on February 01, 2007, 13:13:37
I just want to post an image of my plot which I am very proud of.

Its on a direct bus and train route from the west end which is great for me as I live in Partick so I just went for it rather than wait 10 years for a (much smaller) west end plot. It was an utter state in Sept 2005 when I first got it but I had a vision so with the superb advice and knowledge of the older men I just plodded away without the use of power tools for months on end. I kept it to twice a week so I didnt get fed up (thats important). Its now even more developed than in the picture as I've dug over and weeded between the trees in the bottom half beyond the fence. I think I had every weed I've seen in books apart from Japanese Knotweed thank god.

Its in Springburn Gardens in the north of Glasgow. The allotment itself is an old one, being a present from the railway workers to the people of Springburn in 1915, I actually have an original train stove in my hut which is brilliant in winter.

I think its the most characterful plot in Glasgow but unfortunately it is in need of some TLC. A lot of the plots are lying vacant so if anyone from Glasgow is looking for one and has some time on their hands to dig it over just get in touch here.

thanks for the nice comments.

Apart from the 90 yards of trees and hedge around the plot the worst bit was the 9 foot brambles at the bottom of the plot, I didnt realise the plot sloped over 8 foot from top to bottom till I walked down and just got lower and lower into the brambles till they towered above me. It was just a case of getting my scythe like slasher out and hacking them down to the bottom then digging out.

I did have a great digi camera but no its broken and I have to use my phonecam. I just put the images together roughly in photoshop and blur the edge thats joined. I dont take long doing it.

Its surprisingly nice considering its in Springburn which is considered a pretty dodgy area. Theres hardly any trouble with vandalism, just the usual minor stuff. Kids are more interested in sitting in with computers nowadays than wandering around muddy plots in the middle of the night. Especially since theres nothing worth stealing but rusty spades.
