Yes, I agree with you Eric, it is a COOT.  As you will know it usually gets confused with a moorhen, but this is a COOT.   ;) ;) ;)  Great pic.

yup I think the moorhens have the red patch instead of white, always getting them confused.

Moorhens are smaller, have a red patch, and tend to stay close to cover. Coots are larger, with a white patch, and are comfortable out on the open water.

I LOVE COOTS  ;D They're such gentle, graceful and PRECISE birds  :)

I put them in the same class as Eider Ducks
