Any minute now, as soon as we get a constant 10c or more and the days get longer.

My rhubarb hasn't started yet.  My currants have green buds just itching to burst, but my goosegogs are still looking like a bundle of spiky twigs.  My asparagus always struggles, so I am suprised every year when mine grows.  I am thinking of giving it up as a crop on my plot to be honest.  :'(

As you have a water shortage on your plot, I am not surprised. They need at least a bucketful every day to get a decent crop.

Oh well Ace.  I think I might see if I can sacrifice more lawn and grow a couple of crowns at home where I can look after them a bit better.

My rhubarb is growing - not much - but it's doing well - two new crowns and one part split off from the old one I inherited on the plot!

The Garlic is doing good - I planted it in December!

I've never watered my asparagus! We don't have a water supply so it would be far too much trouble. Always get a good crop, though they did slow down in the dry May last year.

Asparagus won't be showing yet, last year I recorded the first shoot coming through on 25th April - others here had some a few weeks earlier than that. Blackcurrants have buds on, so do gooseberries, but these weren't open at the end of March last year, although I've got a photo at the end of April showing them in full leaf and flowering. So don't give up, there's plenty of time. Unless of course there aren't any buds at all on the fruit bushes, in which case they might not be alive. Scratch a little of the bark away from a blackcurrant or gooseberry stem near to the soil with your thumbnail, it should be green/white underneath, if it's brown, it's dead.

I was weeding my asparagus bed today and one plant had new shoots coming up. I thought it was a bit too early so i covered them up with a layer of soil. My rhubarb is also peeping through plus 2 have a small leaf each.
