Title: Knee Pads
Post by: thomasb on January 27, 2007, 15:51:00
Hi All,
In the 'Grow your Own Veg' programme on BBC2 last night they showed an allotment holder with a wonderfull plot even though he was blind for many years. While people have commented about this in another thread there is a specific question I would like to ask.
Does anyone know where you can get knee pads like those this allotment holder used? I have been looking for a decent pair on and off for the last year. The only thing I have see are pads which you put down on the soil under your knees. This is not what I am looking for. I would prefer knee pads that you strap onto your legs.

Regards,
Thomas

DIY shops sell heavy and light duty ones. The HD ones aren't very comfortable.

Thank you for posting this thomasb, I meant to make a note! Those knee pads were magnificent, weren't they?
I thought they looked rather like this:

Hi

I was tempted by the pads from that very insperational gardener ( now a program all on him i could watch!)

But decided on a tilting seat instead. (http://www.queenswood.co.uk/acatalog/index2.html?http%3A//www.queenswood.co.uk/acatalog/Queenswood_Online_Garden_Essentials.html&CatalogBody) look for garden rocker

Might but the knee pads in my want list for christmas, i think the gell ones might be better for me as i have arthritus in my knees.

I have tried to use knee pads but they just slide down to my ankles and it is not a pretty sight. ;D ::)

I only caught a bit of the program, but was interested in his carrots not growing properly at the bottom, because he used the no dig system. Another reason, for me, to keep on digging.

Sorry, off topic ... stump rooted varieties would have been ideal for her soil wouldn't they ::)
After growing them last year for the first time, I'm hooked. Great for those long car journeys instead of a bag of boiled sweets

Off topic, but I had to ask -

Wilko, what a lovely, lovely name... er... do you by any chance own a chain of shops selling loads of cheap gardening bargains and if so, will you be my new best friend?

;)

If not, welcome to the forum anyway!

I bought one last summer - it cooked everything and i couldnt leave the door open or else the chooks would eat the lot.

Finally chucked it after the wind too it over and my plants with it, bending everything so it never fit back together again!

I've tried two different types of knee pad and found both painful to use. I can't remember why now. I'll have to get them out and try them again to find out why I didn't like them. I think i prefer just a foam kneel mat though sometimes I move on without it. My OH tried the knee pads (in the loft not gardening!) as well and also found them painful.

Kea,
Are any of the knee-pads that were recommended early in this thread the ones that you found painful?

Hi all. My partner a heating engineer and uses knee pads all the time. Any plumb centre or similar will sell them. Even better are the blue trousers with special inserts to slide pads into so they don't fall down! I want some!!!
How fantastic was that mans lottie? Absolutely amazing.

Sorry Thomasb I don't know where I got them from and I haven't used them for a long time so I don't know where i have put them. I will have a look and see if I can find them as they may have a label on them.
I have a problem with one of my knees though and it might have made that worse.
