sorry if this is in the wrong section, Just watching the grow your own programme, they have shown a blind allotment holder with a 100ftx30ft plot, no weeds at all, now there no excuse for having weeds on your plot, if a blindman can have a weed free one us sighted gardenders shouldnt have one either. Its the best thing I have seen in months.
His veg is bigger & better than what I have grown. Also thought he had bigger & better veg than carol grew. Unbelievable what he has done and is still able to do though he is blind. Unbelievable. Very impressive indeed.
Maybe he should have hosted the show instead...

he could teach us all a thing or two. It shows that you can do anything if you want to.
its kinds growing on me this programme. its not hugely in depth and misses a lot of stuff out, but i think it gives an interesting angle on veg growing and i really like the way it doesnt always work out. for example the lady witht the veg patch that had been eaten by caterpillars and how she hadnt been able to tend to it for a few wweeks as her son was ill was a really honest look at how normal people garden. the blind guy was an inspiration i agree. i think its a good program and doesnt try to do too much but kind of gives people a taste of what veg growing is about and then people can find out more if they need too.
He certainly was an inspiration, if anybody feels like they are struggling they have just got to think back to this guy it should give us all a little push. What was the mixture he was using to plant the cabbages can anyone remember it seems to have worked against the clubroot.
Well I certainly learnt more of him then I did listening to Carol with what I think is false enthusiasm

I remember lime and eggshells, and ? his own compost?
I can't remember what the compost was, but he did say it was well riddled/sieved, then he added some lime, crushed eggshells, blood fish & bone and perhaps something else (some grit or something?) then mixed it all up.
Can only repeat what other have said. He certainly was an inspiration.
Maybe we should all contact the Beeb & suggest they make a whole programme about him. Much more interesting than many people they have on reality shows. I love the programme & am very sad that it's only 6 episodes long. I would prefer it to GW every week.

Yes, I believe it was borage saddad. I was amazed watching him also. Such lovely cabbages. I think his mix was a couple of handfuls of his well seived home made compost, one of lime, one of egg shells and one of BFB, all mixed well, and a good handful into the planting hole. As you can imagine, I wrote down the recipe in my book to try this year....altho we don't really eat eggs at all, so will have to miss that, but I guess I could buy calcium??
Buy the grit the sell for hens.... it is cheap and is basically what egg shell is! You can get rubber eggs if they don't get enough grit!

EJ you are a swat, go to the top of the class, good job you remembered so I will give the mix a go, and I agree with you RK she is false and the veggies she pulls up are near perfect and clean but still a good watch. ;D ;D ;D
I did not see the program about the blind gardener, because I had already given up watching it, as I found the early programs so boring, condescending and completely false. That is a shame as I had such high hopes when the program was first announced. I also fear that there will be a lot of broken dreams from gardening first-timers, who will be misled by the program, and will be put off by the reality of growing your own. :'(
