Hi All,
You may notice some adverts have started appearing within posts, underlined words, which pop-up some information if hovered over, the advantage of these over other types of ads, is that they provide genuine links to advertisers, for things being discussed on the site!
These are becoming more common on the Internet now, and hopefully will not spoil your enjoyment of the site.
Cheers
Dan
No problem with them at all. Lots of sites link adds to added content, it's a sign of the times. Google do it but actually place a box add alongside a post. That's more 'intrusive' than these line adds.
Hi Dan,
Over the last few weeks, some words and place names in members' posts seem to have been linked to advertisers on the site. I've only noticed it in the last few weekds. Until today, these links were shown as dotted lines under words in a post, with a hyperlink to an advertiser; today it's changed to bright green, underlined, with a hyperlink to an advertiser. Is this a programming fault with the site?
Even my signature is now hyperlinked to Lycos ???
Anyone else noticed this? :-\
Thanks Dan. I do find it detracts from following peoples' posts. Guess I'll just have to keep my cursor away from the text :-\
I think some of the links are a bit suspect and not gardening orientated....'fleece' (as in plant covering) was linked to a clothing shop! :)
Yeah, i noticed 'trainers' (as in root trainers) was linked to shoe shopping too. I think it's okay to have these adverts but I do feel they ought to be in some way related to gardening? x
It is not an ideal thing, but to pay for the site hosting, I have to get in money :-[
The choices are rather limited, ads at the top of the screen seem not to be noticed, probably due to them not being visible after the first post in a thread.
Other options are horrible pop ups, which cover nearly the entire screen, and you have to hunt for the close button (which I hate, and hope never to use).
In line pay per click ads seem the lesser of all the options to me.
Cheers
Dan

Maybe the advertiser thought - if the plants are cold so is the gardener!
Nothing is perfect, but it has got to be better than random ads, or one which cover the whole screen.
Cheers
Dan
I haven't noticed them at all. I hate popups, so I've got no complaints at all.
I thought Supersprout said her name was linked to Lycra (bet it will be now ;D)
On my recent swap for betterave fougere there is a suspicious link the word animal is a hyperlink (I think) and i didn't put it there. help please
I've noticed links popping up everywhere ???
So have I, I was just about to post asking what's going on. ???
The double underscoring, crap advertising sites - get rid or I'm out of here.
They are totally irrelevant to gardening/allotmenteering.
Just get rid!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ooo, I just inadvertantly hovered over 'plug plants' in another thread, and was offered a live sex show! I say, and it wasn't in the watershed. :-X

Please let me know the thread - that is not a good development.

Spring cabbages in edibles. Float over plug plants and live jasmin is there to please.
Is there a trial period for this development Dan, or is it here to stay? ::)

I've removed all the in-line ads until this issue can be sorted out.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Dan
Thank you Dan :)

I haven't decided yet - which I suppose in effect is equivalent to a trial period.
It all comes down to meeting the site running costs.
Dan
Go with it Dan. We will all get used to it in such a short time . Don`t worry about it . Otherwise you will have to start asking for a fee.!!!!.
I can't see how you can filter links to the ads...that's one heady job.
While adults should be adult enough to decide for themselves whether or not to click the link, children visiting the site more than likely will click out of curiosity. That's an understandable concern.

Thats why it is important to supervise children when they are on the net, and if you can't spare that time or trust your children they shouldn't be allowed on it.
Thank goodness for Net Nanny. ;D
Sorry Dan, I wasn't complaining about the ads, to be honest, when I read a thread, I'm not moving the mouse around other than to scroll down. You needs to make the site pay, and you must do what you must do. I was just suprised, and posted it a little tongue in cheek. Hope you get it sorted and it doesn't give you a headache!
ditto all of EJ's above....
(must say, as a stalwart W'shed-er, not even I could make the immediate mental link between 'plug plants' and the pleasurable services offered by Jasmine....) :o
I'm not liking this development one bit, sorry :-\
Come on you lot Dan has to get money to run the site just go along with it. If we find something to cheeky just let Dan, know eh!!.
