Title: Are there any knitters out there?
Post by: cookie on January 25, 2007, 14:02:29
I am trying to track down a knitting pattern for a babies crossover cardigan. My Mum used to make them for my boys twenty odd years ago, and they are very easy to put on as they open up from side to side. They look very similar to ballet cardigans, but with two sets of two buttons instead of ties
My friend is expecting her first baby in April, and I would love to make one for her, if only I could find a pattern. Have tried all the wool shops and charity shops in the area, but no luck.
Are there any closet knitters out there who could help? ???

Hi cookie
My needles clack merrily from November to March - then the rustle of straw and seed packets takes over :D
'Allotments4all' - for knitters - is at http://www.knittyboard.com/index.php
Loads of friendly peeps, advice, free patterns (you're bound to find several for those crossover cardies) hints and tips. Most members are from the US, but it doesn't seem to matter.
I do have loads of knitting books and patterns, but don't have a scanner or a photocopier.

Hi cookie - have you looked on ebay?  I looked there recently for babies cardi's and there were some ebay shops selling knitting stuff, not bad prices.

We're a family of knitters so I'll happily have a look at my mum's stash of patterns at the weekend & will let you know if we have one like you're looking for.  I could copy it at work & post it Monday if we do.  I'll keep an eye on this thread incase anyone else finds you one in the meantime x

I'm a knitter :D but not done any baby stuff. You could also try asking on the UK Handknitters yahoo group, they're pretty good at finding patterns and things. Here's a few links I came up with:
http://www.knitpat.com/product_list.asp?Product_Group_DBname=Baby&Product_SubGroup=Category_2
http://www.ethknits.co.uk/Sublime/Patterns/Sublime-Patterns-02.htm
http://www.karpstyles.com/catalog.html?category=Patterns%20to%20Download

It's a very sweet design!
Tina.

Many thanks for all your ideas! I have put in a bid for a pattern book (with just the right design!) on ebay, so fingers crossed.  :)

I used to knit under garments for the boys while commuting in the '40s. Still on clothes rationing but not as modern as Kite marked furniture!!
