Title: I'm not saying I'm going to, but.....
Post by: selwyn-smith on January 22, 2007, 14:06:52
What happens if.........

I don't dig up last years potatoes that I was unable to harvest, and just leave them to grow again this year?

Should I duck ?

I know there must be loads of reasons, as it would just be too easy a solution.
So why can't I take the lazy mans                                                                                                                                                                                     route?
Be kind.

in my case 90% will have been slug food the rest become surprise potatoes which i have always been told you should not eat.

Interesting - if volunteer or surprise spuds are sound, I eat them  ???
selwyn, I would have thought that the main problem would be overcrowding - next year's crop might be lots of small 'uns. Plus the possibility of passing on nasties to the next generation?

Some of my surprise spuds have been better than the ones I intentionally planted.

I'm with Sprout and T G always eat suprise spuds if there's any damage I just cut it out. The slugs would love you to keep them in, I asked last year about putting some spuds back in thinking about disease resistance, the bloke on the plot said you could put them in once but it's a chance you take.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
