FREE GREENWICH TIMES NEWS PAPER dated the 17-1-2007.
Hi ALL I've just had a free Greenwich Times news paper through our letter box. After me looking through it and then looking at the back page which is about (SPORT) and ( CARE UNITED! ) as reported, 150 young people up for the ( UNITY CUP )
FOOTBALL for UNITY made ANOTHER GREAT STRIDE FORWARD with an INTER-FAITH,CROSS CULTURAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT in GREENWICH.
Around 150 young people,aged 16-25,attended the event at the Woolwich Waterfront to compete for the Charlton Athletic RACIAL EQUALITY ( CARE ) UNITY CUP.
Teams were selected in a NON-TRADITIONAL WAY in order to BRING MEMBERS OF DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES TOGETHER AND HELP DEVELOP POSITIVE COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS.
Cllr Kanta Patel,the Council cabinet member for social inclusion and justice,and Cllr John Fahy,cabinet member for culture and the Olympics,blew the whistles to start the action.
Cllr Fahy said: " GREENWICH IS VERY PROUD TO HOST ANOTHER FOOTBALL FOR UNITY TOURNAMENT. This great initiative IS AN EXAMPLE of how sport can be used TO BRING DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES TOGETHER,ESTABLISH LINKS AND PROMOTE INCLUSION.
" The tournament also underlines much of the work being done in GREENWICH to PROMOTE GOOD COMMUNITY RELATIONS as the borough gets READY FOR THE 2012 Olympic Games."
Hosted by the Charlton Athletic RACIAL EQUALITY ( CARE ) partnership,the event is also supported by the Football for UNITY programme and Greenwich Council.

Whilst I always say to people when talking about coloured people in the UK,with so many things that are involved in living together,we are all brothers and sisters if we were born under the same sun and moon. This artical is like real life saying one thing to do with RACISM and then shows another side of RASISM that I noticed as some one who's played a lot of football in the past,until my injurys stop me from doing so. With this in mind we had coloured guys in our team and we all got on ok,like you can do,but after looking at the photos taken of GREYS who ( WON THE CARE UNITY CUP ) I could not help noticeing there were no white players in it,mixed race yes.
Then I looked at the photos below,when I noticed there were no coloured or mixed race kids in them. I then thought to my self,I wonder if this is how News Papers can say one thing if we bother to read it or another if we just look at it.
I have another saying,may we all live long and happy,but with this going on supported by our Greenwich Council and others,I suppose what chance have we got with so many different races living in the UK portrayed like this,with all the things I have highlighted what are they really saying to someone who cares. I would'nt worry about it John its got to be good for the community spirit. If you had a good day thats all what matters. PS, its not very pc to use coloured people

Hi ALL,what I'm saying is,in our football team we had black and white people enjoying playing football together like we have now,when other's didn't. But now there are lots of football teams like Greys who only have their own kind in them,which I believe must cause a them and us situation,like the paper showed to me. Everyone's a winner on the same page. Behind the team in the photo it shows the words LET'S KICK RACISM OUT OF FOOTBALL,the words RACISM is printed in white on a black background and the other words are in yellow on a green background, what this is saying to me is, YOU CAN'T BE A RACIST in the UK,but you can be in other ways,and it's ok,or is it just me being antagonistic.
