Those are in very good nick dad!
I do love salsify, tried scorzonera for the first time this year and haven't got around to harvesting :-[ My celeriac seem to be hairier than yours and bring half the allotment mud home with them :(
Yes, I'm always suspicious of veg that say 'tastes like' - asparagus, oyster, spinach - or what's the other one? Oh yes, 'lends itself to sauces' LOL! ;D Let's have it for veg that taste of themselves :-\
Great crop, thanks for the inspiring pic :)

I've made Salsify a weed on our allotments Blight, by letting one or two go to seed but have never managed to germinate Scorzonera!
This is the weed!

I wonder why? Could it be that the seed was too old? Scorzonera seed is best used within a year after packaging. But even if it´s viable, it takes two weeks to germinate. Do you remember which variety it was?

whoops dad, I meant salsify :-[ our allotment tap is switched off, back on in April >:(

Scorzonera flowers are delicious when in bud, they're like your lovely salsify flower but yellow :) someone told me that salsify/scorzy flowers attract bees too!

I grow scorzy.  A nice root.  My lot aren't keen, but they don't mind it with mash or in soups or stews.  I do love the flowers though and had a huge vase full this summer and they looked amazing!

I've tried several varieties Blight, even bringing one back from a holiday in France! Still no luck but as it took12 years to get carrots I'm still hopeful!
;D

My scorzy was from Lidl seed, and it germinated quickly.  It is very keen and now I can't get rid of it!  Not a complaint though.
