hi I'm starting off growing veg and fruit in my garden. At the moment i have onions, strawberries and raspberry canes growing. Ive got a load of tomato and carrot seeds to try but i was looking at growing potatoes. I have seen adverts for potato pots and bags is it easier to grow them this way?

Hi I am also new and have just got my allotment.

I have just bean to Netto and they are selling thier seeds packets for 19p each let me know if you cannot get to one near you if not I would be happy to post some veggi to you

good luck with your potatoes - I have ordered the potato starter pack from Suttons 10 of each Accent (1st crop)
                               Maxine (2nd Early)
                               Valour (main crop)
just going to see how I get on.  have been told that the guy who had the plot before never had luck with potatoes but will just have a go and see.  Also want to try new ones think they are cold apple somthing or other.

Any way good luck

Hi maddie and welcome never used the bag method but if you have a garden it should be ideal. If you have a big garden then it might be better with seeds, also you could grow in containers or potato barrels good luck whatever you do, there will probably be a lot of advise coming your way.

I grew spuds for the first time last year in bags and was pleased with the result.  The only thing I struggled with was just how much water spuds need - it's a heck of a lot more than I would have imagined.   I still had a great crop of Arran Pilot, they were yummy !

The RHS say best to use first or second earlies for container growing rather than mains.
