Title: bee balm
Post by: manicscousers on January 06, 2007, 19:39:20
how does this plant grow, is it from seed ?,
if it is, I'll put in for swaps, I love the colour and shape of it but have never grown it before,
is it a fussy plant, does it need special soil, like hydrangeas etc, any info eagerly anticipated  :D

Hi MS.  I take it you are talking about Monarda?  Last year I grew 'citriodora' commonly known as lemon mint and that was happy in a pot in semi-shade.  In September I sowed 'austromonana' commonly called bergamot which according to the blurb on the packet likes a light, well-drained soil in full sun.  It'll get semi-shade and it had two chances!   ;)
I can spare a pinch of either/both if you want.   :)

I think it's the bergamot, it's a beautiful plant, if you can spare a ew seeds, that would be great, anything I can swap for it ?
