Title: start growing seeds
Post by: windygale on January 06, 2007, 11:47:02
Hi All, in the gardening books and on TV they say its about time to start growing seeds for an early crop (in the south where i live --wiltshire) my questions are, how do you all start this process, in a propagator, GH, harden plants off in a coldframe then transplant out into growing areas, or sow seed into soil with plastic cover over them and leave, or do you all wait untill march /april then sow seeds.
windy ::)

I´m getting a really early start here in Spain! keeping the green house above 10 degrees at night (I´m in the mountains! v cold at night!) its full of germinating seedlings! my first pepper germinated this morning!! I use big trays and plant the seeds in yoghurt pots, water from underneath and sprinkle cinnamon on the surface to prevent damping off, I suppose you could do the same thing indoors, you dont really need a greenouse. I´ll try and take some pics ......

Unless you have a heated green house which can be kept at a constant 65 degrees C then don't sow yet. I don't sow anything these days until after the spring equinox (March 21) ie when the days become longer than the nights.
