Title: Hello...newbie here.
Post by: Laney on January 05, 2007, 18:41:24
 ;D
I already posted up in the edible section, but was pointed in this direction too.  I guess this is where you all hang out.  I'm a complete forum addict, so I'll probably get hooked and you'll all get reeeaaally sick of me. ;)

I'm a 26 year old Mum of three children, I live in Essex with my partner Pete.  We have three kids, our family is blended, so this gets a bit confusing.  Ryan, my stepson(age 13) moved in with us a year ago as his Mum wasn't looking after him very well(long story >:( ).  I have a son Taylor(almost eight) from a previous relationship, and we have a daughter Isobel who is 2.5(she runs the house).

I started a very small, pathetic veg patch and tomato forest last year, so this year have set my sights slightly higher.  Hence me joining here.  I saw this place mentioned on a few gardening blogs and thought I'd give it a go.

Hiya Laney, I have just been looking through your blog.  A Basildon girl huh.  We are just outside Chelsmford.  I am a (sshh) 36 year old mum of 3, well, 2.5 as my step daughter only comes at weekends.  Glad to meet you.  ;D

Hi Laney, welcome to A4A. I'm not around as much as I used to be as I've gone off to uni full-time, but I have to say you've picked the right place to meet some great people who are knowledgeable and fun. Good luck with your veg patch!

Hi Laney, welcome to the site! You'll find everyone really helpful and friendly and extremely knowledgable - there's always someone who knows the answer to any questions you may have (and i've got plenty, believe me lol) altho' it might not be immediately so don't panic if you don't get a reply straight away! We've just taken on our first allotment and are learning as we go along, it all seems so daunting to start with, but i'm sure this time next year we'll feel a bit more like we know what we're doing! Don't forget to take some before & after piccies & post them up here for us all to see! Good luck x

(http://bestsmileys.com/welcome/17.gif) Laney.  I'm also from Essex, about a half hour from Basildon.  I had a buddy who used to live and teach in Chalvedon (my bit of useless information for the day)

Hello Laney, welcome to the forum (http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e220/supersprout/smilies/waveposticon.gif)
Sounds like you've got your hands full :o lots of peeps here have artful ways of getting the kids to help - my favourites were a straw bale creche/igloo, getting the kids to jump up and down on beds before planting out brassica (to firm them up, like), and dangling the two year old over the compost heap to wee ;D sure you have your own!
Top tip: the Search facility is worth using, screeds of brilliant advice on arcane topics. The wiki, written by members, is well worth getting to know, especially for the bits about 'clearing a new plot'.
Everyone is very welcoming here, sharing questions, advice, learning experiences and successes - and not only about allotments 8) I hope you get as much help and enjoyment from A4a as I have in my first year :D

Hi Laney,

I'm new too (even newer to gardening than you, the most I grew last year was daffs in the garden  ::)). I'm 26 and have three children too, but mine are littlies. I've just taken on an allotment and the advice here so far has been great, particularly from those who stopped me taking the petrol and matches approach to clearing the ground in desperation  ;D

Happy digging!

Laura

Hello Laney, down the road a bit from you, beside the sea side, beside the sea. ;D. Loads of very knowledgable folk here, and yes, you will probably become addicted, so welcome from me.

P.S. How I love your message at the bottom, and how true. ;D

Hi Laney. Welcome aboard, pull up a garden chair and enjoy (maybe when the weather improves) This site is very very addictive but so enjoyable. I have asked some stupid questions over the past coupe of years but nobody has ever talked down to me. I have also managed to make some close "friends" . As an OAP novice I enjoy so many hours on here.

My eldest goes to Chalvedon.  I bet your friend had some stories to tell about the little buggers that go there. It's actually the best school in this area, but still full of scumbags. ::)
