Title: Garlic
Post by: Blue Bird on January 01, 2007, 19:12:07
Can you use garlic bought in the green grocers or do you have to buy special varieties ?  ???

It depends where it comes from. If it was grown in northern Europe it'll be OK, if it's a southern variety, it might or might not. Try it and see.

Thanks we call into Lidl first thing in the morning. Will let you know later in the year how I get on.
What other things can I use that can come from the supermarkets ?

My son brought those huge white beans back from a supermarket in Greece, and they grew and cropped really well :D but a lot of veggies grown for the supermarket are grown for handling/keeping quality and looks, rather than taste :P

Happy New Year to you Bluebird, another thing that you can get from Lidl at the moment are Shallot : Escalote Grise
Khaki coloured shallot rarely seen in Britain. A gourmet shallot prized in French cuisine with its intense and concentrated flavour.

They are £0.99 for a net of about 8-10 at Lidl,  Thompson & Morgan are selling them at £5.49 for about 15 so definitely a good bargain and worth a try, regards Steve.
