I grew pumpkins in 2005 and had amazing fun with them but realised that my back garden wasn't the perfect place for them and had to 'think' of a new invention to have their own private space.
Now your pics are giving me ideas :o ;D And my mind is racing.
Do the squash manage to support themselves easily enough on the frames?
Did you have any that broke off?
As some appear to be of a good weight but dwindling in the air?
I suppose naturally they entwine around the frames to give themselves enough support??

oooo honey, no, I posted these from our hols last year when we were at gardens in France. Cor, wish my better half could knock something like that up!!!! They do support themselves once they get going as they have tendrils which grab hold of things and the stems are usually pretty tough, however, I have seen fruits supported by mini hammocks made out of ladies stockings :o. I am going to have a go building something like it, on a much much smaller scale this year, using old trellis to get them going upwards.

we made wigwams with hazel from our bushes, tied the squashes up, did pretty well, it actually made it easier to water them, we could see the water bottles :D
If anyone is thinking about 'going native' for wood products - willow and hazel stakes, pea sticks, hurdles, charcoal and so on, remember to order well ahead - well, now!

Still its given me some great ideas and ive shown hubby the pics, hes promised me the world but we shall wait and see if he remembers his promises in the spring ;)

I don't remember the name of the gardens now Pauline, I would have to look back through the papers, but we were in the Vendee. It was a fab place with water gardens, bonsai house, tropical house, orchid house, veggie garden and lovely gardens from around the world. I will ask the old boy in a mo if he can remember where it was.
