Got to spread some lime on my ground in a few weeks time and was wondering how most of you go about it, seems awkward stuff to spread evenly to me
I just broadcast it in handfulls you are right it doesn't spread evenly, have seen some little trolley things, like they use for lawn fertilisers but I just chuck it about!
;D
Put mine in a bucket, then spread it with a trowel, remembering to stand upwind. Tis true - it doesnt fall evenly, but I don't think that matters, as the lime gets washed into the soil anyway.
same here, use a small measure out of rooster chicken muck, or gloves, I agree about standing upwind I don't worry overmuch about dosage as it's on the brassica beds, just do a light spread and put some in the planting hole, our beds really need it :)
This is how I spread mine.

I don't know if it is my imagination but the slugs/snails don't seem to cross the lines.
Tee Gee,
Now I know that you're 'Adam the Gardener'!
Great pics!
I put mine on the end of a spade and sprinkle it all over. It does not settle evenly. As previously said - ensure you are upwind or no wind at all. Now would be a good time to do it with all this wet weather as it would get washed deep into the ground. Though I usually lime in the late autumn.
ktlawson I think the trouble with putting it on now is that with all this rain I think it would be washed out of the ground to soon. Thank you antway for your response to my question.
