Whilst out for my usual morning walk I stopped on the bridge over our only just a river to see if I could spot the bird/creature which had caused a lot of ripples when I stopped on the bridge during our evening walk. Nice to see a couple of coots with their white heads. The water has been empty of water birds for a lot of the last 8 years because of the depredations of mink.
What was nice was to see a kingfisher wing its way under the bridge and upstream. What was even nicer was to see another one follow it a few seconds later. They nested on a steep bank last year and we were able to watch them flying in and out with fish, but this year they must have gone elsewhere. Glad they survived.
Fab! I have never seen kingfishers in the flesh, only courtesy of the tv and books. I have a similar thing with badgers, only ever see them on the telly....or squished in the road! Wouldn't think I lived in the country!

One sure way to see kingfishers is to go on a canalboat holiday. I did this a few years ago and saw loads.
