Oh Ina that is just beautiful. What a lovely photograph.
Oh Ina,
Tulips I have heard they grow them like that but never realy seen them how beautiful just like the ground has been painted. Do they just harvest them for the blooms?
They are grown for the bulbs, not the blooms. As soon as they are in bloom, they get beheaded right away. Nowadays, the flowers are cut off by machines, much faster than in the old days when it was done by hand, so they only stay on for a very short time.
Of course, some tulips are grown for cut flowers but the majority are grown for the bulbs.
Absolutely beautiful Ina - such a shame to cut off all those lovely blooms.
Oh Ina,
How things change I always thought of men cutting the flowers but I supose machines make the job quicker. tulips remind me of when I was going out with hubby as he is now. Both of us in the RAF and he went to holand and bought me back an arm full of tulips and me in the WRAF block our little room was full of tulips. Happy dating memories of tulips and yes we have lots of different tulips in the garden for old time sake.
My first holiday without the parents :o was to Amsterdam to see the tulip fields and visit lots of wonderful gardens in Spring. (Not visiting the coffee bars or the red light district I can assure you ;)) It was breathtaking then and your photo brought it all back to me. Wonderful Ina ;D
That reminds me that there is another reason to got to Amsterdam.
Must arrange for a long weekend over there very soon....... All plants seem to grow better over there ;)
Well done Ina.
Well Les, if you want to see tulips, go to the Keukenhof (not far from Amsterdam) but you better hurry. We went today and things seem to be at their peak now. The Keukenhof is only open from the end of March to about the end of May, their website will give exact dates.
Here is a picture we took this afternoon.

Oh Ina
What a beautiful photo hope you dont mind going to have it on my desktop
Hi Teresa. That is the nicest compliment, thank you.
If you really want it for a desk top, I should mail you the full size one, this one is only 25%. If you want me to mail you this one and others (we took some beauties, so happy with our new digi camera), just private message your e-mail address to me and I'll send you some piccies that will make your mouth water.
Oh Ina,
your a gem would love some mum went to the gardens some years ago and loved it must get hubby to take me one year. Digi cameras are great I just love my dads even he calls it our camera haa haa.
Oh Ina, that is so beautiful. I have followed Teresa's example and put it on my desktop. My computer automatically resizes it to fit my desktop. I would love to see the other photos. Why not put them on here, I am sure the others would love them too.
Patricia and Teresa (and anyone for that matter), it would be a shame make a blow-up from these small pictures, it will be much sharper if you got the full size but it's up to you. I'd gladly e-mail full size ones to anyone wanting them, just private message your addy.
Here are a few more.

Gorgeous Ina. Thanks for sharing them. Thanks also for your offer but the photo is beautifully clear on my desktop. :)
Just happy to be able to share with you all and to know you enjoy them too.
Me too Ina beautiful on desktop and we can copy the others to add to collection many thanks for making our day.
I suggested to Ina that they should do the national flag in tulips - would make a good photo from the air? Thanks for growing all those, so that we can enjoy the dozen or so we have in our garden. Pitiful, isn't it!! All we get locally is fields of rape. Are any of them fragrant? That would be something to experience.
My wife got over, courtesy the US Airforce, many years ago, and still raves about it. = Tim
PS thought I'd add this? And to hell with the size!!
That was fun to see Tim. I still think that the full size one would be much sharper.
As far as I know, tulips have no smell but the garlic smell of the fritilaria was everywhere, not offensive to me tho'.
Many years ago, they did do a field in tulips like a painting, near the airport. It was amazing.
At the risk of you all getting sick and tired of my Keukenhof pictures and Dan saying I take up too much room, here are a couple more.

Just love the water one.
The desktop - no, it's perfectly sharp. Remember it's been photographed with a shaky hand, and then messed about with. No probs, = Tim
Ina
Have you got an eye for a good photo they are truely wonderfull and the lake one out of this world.
Beautiful pictures Ina, I wonder if any has tried to cultivate miniature flowers (I mean really small) to set in places like Madurodam (den haag) all those miniature villages/buildings look out of place with "normal sized" flowers planted around them.
Absolutely mouth-wateringly beautiful Ina :) I am now spoilt for choice for desktop photos ;) :D
Well, all the credit really goes to the people planting this lovely garden. Maybe these pictures have inspired some people to take a little trip to Holland, there are so many nice and interesting places to visit. Saying this I think I should get a bonus from the department of tourism hahaha.
As for miniature tulips for Madurodam (lovely place to visit too), we have seen some small ones but I doubt small enough for it.
Thanks for all the nice comments.
tulips are my absolute favourite flower, growing up in spalding south lincolnshire we used to have fields just like that - not so many now though.
i have some lovely tulips down the allotment and i cut some yesterday and to my surprise they smell lovely - never known a tulip with fragrance before but these fill the room!
The more pictures the merrier ina.
Fantastic
Cheers
Dan
OOooh Ina, tulip heaven. I love em ;D ;D
Just like to add my appreciation of Ina's photos. Fantastic!

You may not have the quantity but you certainly have the quality Gardener. Beautiful :)
Nice one G. Such a pretty color.
Thanks Dan for the reassurance, I don't know why but I was afraid that pictures may take up a lot of space.
Ina I've never gone to Holland but oh those gardens make me wonder why not!
I really love tulips so am a bit overwhelmed with the beauties on this thread. I've got more than I should ahve on the allotment - keep putting a few more bulbs here and there in wee corners.
Congrats to all you photographers
Megan
Just thought I would add my meagre offering
