Oh, I'm not doing it Tim, my OH is and he has been out at work today so only has evenings to do it.  We bought the flooring a few years back too and it is the type that needs glue.   :(   OH has finished the dining area and is now onto the kitchen.  Unfortunately there are little nooks and crannies and so many of the boards need cutting.   There is so much waste too because of the tongue and groove.  We have also got to move the dishwasher out to get behind it and then put it back when the glue has set.  A job for tomorrow night I think.  Even when the floor is laid, we have to put on the skirting, architraves and plinths.  There is still some decorating to do too.  Now if he spills paint on that new floor............I will throw the bad eggs at him.

Yours looks really good Tim.  I will keep my fingers crossed that ours will be all right when it is finished.  It certainly looks better than the carpet that was there before.  Unfortunately we had to leave it down and go over the top as previous owners had stuck it to the floor.  This means that doors have to be taken off and planed.  Nothing is ever straight forward.   :(

You people sure are brave ;D so near Christmas. (must shampoo my carpets tomorrow :). )My eldest daughter who lives about 4 miles away is moving this week (two streets away from me) so I guess I had better keep the teapot warm.

Hello Adam, long time. Hope all is well with you.

Not a question of bravery, Lorna.  We had to have somewhere to eat our Christmas meal as the family are coming to us this year.   ;D

This has been an ongoing project for at least five years now.  We put new units in the kitchen but couldn't do the floor as we still had a large freezer and fridge in the dining room and didn't want to stand them on new laminate.  We decided to put them in an area where our shower was, just off the kitchen but before we could do this we had to upgrade a bathroom upstairs so we could shower up there.   ::)

We ripped the whole lot out and had floor boards to replace as well.  The bathroom alone took us well over a year.  It is difficult when John is at work full time and has to spend a lot of time trimming hedges and cutting grass during the summer months.  There was also the chicken extension that he built last year and putting up fencing around chicken runs/vegetable beds over the past six years.

We had to do the whole utility area downstairs which includes the place where the fridge and freezer are now sited.  We had to have new windows and a door as well as new flooring.  Then there were new units for the whole of this area.  Most of them are up now but the sink isn't in place yet.  It has just been one thing after another.   :(

Although not finished, we have been able to move the fridge and freezer to their final positions so we could concentrate on the dining area.  This room has had to have a new roof, new ceiling, insulation on walls, new plasterboard and heating installed.  John has done all this himself and without help.  Hopefully by Christmas the kitchen and dining room will be finished at long last.  This will certainly be the best present I could ever have wished for.   ;D ;D

Pauline you sound just like us!  We had an extension built 5 years ago and OH planned to finish it off - still waiting!  We are getting there but it is a slow job, so I know how pleased you must feel at seeing a finishing off job happening - well done!  Hope you have a lovely christmas with your family.  T.

Crikey Pauline sounds like you have almost had a rebuild ;D Hope all goes well for Christmas, even if things are not quite finished I am sure the family won't mind. Just being together as a family will be the icing on the cake.
Best wishes Lorna.xx

Thanks YP for your offer of help.  I have sorted it out with Dan now so should be able to use the picture posting facility again.  I have decided to wait until John has fitted the skirtings and plinths before taking a photo.  At the moment he is having a well deserved rest from the DIY and I have had a "flu" type bug since Christmas.  I think maybe I was run down with having so much to do beforehand.   :(
