Today I went to finish off the netting fleece over the cree to stop hens flying over. On opening the door there it was. The first, small though it was but it was still there. In the nesting box...... Not a hen, not a cockeral, not even any straw in it? but the one, the first, a white egg. I was chuffed to bits. I didnt touch it but got my 3 yr old son to look for eggs..... He put it in his bucket to take home for lunch today. I heard a tapping sound. Gradually getting louder, and louder. The the tapping turned into a crack. My son was testing the strength of the shell thinking it was never gonna crack. It did. Our first egg and we didnt even get to cook it.... but chuffed all the same. The first of many. I'm sure
I miss my three year olds.... now they are 13 and 16... it's not the same!
::)
I've had that too "can I hold the egg, please can I hold the egg" "ok" "oh sorry" its on the floor. I was lucky enough as it hadn't fully broken so I cooked it for our ferret.
