Post by: Admin aka Dan on December 09, 2006, 19:00:39
Hi,

I have had to take chat offline, due to a hack attempt.

It shall return tomorrow.

Some people do it because they enjoy disrupting other peoples enjoyment - they claim they are making some form of statement of course, or probing for weaknesses to increase security - the endpoint is they are simply causing disruption.

Sad world.

I dont agree with anything that disrupts our enjoyment of this site and there is no excuse for doing it.However bulletin boards and chat boards only exist thanks to so called hackers. The founders of apple computers were both "phreakers".

Hackers are also employed by microsoft and the fbi to name two to ensure the products we use are safer. The people that are labelled as hackers nowadays are nothing more than skript kiddies using other peoples programs. There is an article that states that the roots of the internet,HTML,Unix and Linux all come from the hacking community.Linux originated from so called hackers and now has the support of IBM Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems. If it wasn't for hackers you wouldnt enjoy half of what you do on the pc and a large section of its software.

There is at least member of this Board who used to go into a particular Computer outlet shop and enter a line of machine code into the display computers which played havoc with the machines. They had to be turned off and restarted to get them working properly again. That was pre-teens too if my memory serves me right.  Now? He works in the electronics industry!

I have not noticed much online activity from Dan over these past few days, either he is very busy with 'other' issues, or not well ...

I miss it too, Eric!   :(

Well, till Dan sorts things out, we'll just have to set up an 'un-live chatroom' in the evenings instead...
If only as emergency Palustris-therapy!   ;D
