Title: Good old Ben
Post by: MrsKP on December 09, 2006, 09:07:48
My mate won a free blackcurrant bush from that well known cordial/juice firm months ago, she thought I'd appreciate her prize.

Had forgotton all about it until yesterday when a 6" long stick called Ben Hope dropped through the letterbox.

The rain is holding off so i shall go plant my stick in the ground today.

Nice !

Don't panic Cornykev... best planted now so that it can develop roots over winter... if yours went in in June you have done well to keep it alive! Yours should pick up now so take heart Mrs KP

When you plant it MrsKP, make sure there's at least 3 buds below soil surface, these will send shoots up in spring so you get lots of stems. You probably won't get any fruit in 2007, but probably will in 2008. It'll be ok in open soil.
Cornykev - is yours still alive? Does it have buds? Scratch away a little of the surface of the stem to see if its still green under. If not, it's probably dead and best to get another and put it in quickly.
