I thought, seeing as the met office website and the BBC weather site had a symbol sun&cloud, I would go down to the allotment when hubby got back from work, so I could plant my second earlies in peace. I had got them all nicely in their drills ready to cover when it started to bucket down. Shed still got no roof or front so no shelter and I don't like trespassing on other allotments (the one next to me has a polytunnel). I still had to walk back, so I ought I would finish covering up the spuds and sow 3 short rows, one each of Autumn King X, Nantes 2 and Boltardy.
Ha ha :D Caught me out too Mia. Just came home from work, had a quick cuppa, changed into gardening gear, then off to the allotment. Just got everything out of the shed ...wheel barrow, spade and erics patent riddler. Managed about 1 foot of digging when the heavens opened. >:( Got soaked getting it all back. Didnt bother with sitting in the shed, just packed up and came home to a soak in the bath and a night infront of the telly/computer.
Almost every local - & I mean local to our next town - forecast over the last few weeks has been way out. No frost when '-4C' forecast; torrential rain when 'dry'; glass-shattering gale when '14 mph'.
I complained - 'thank you for your letter - we have been supplying weather info to the govt & the Services etc for 100 years ........'. SO - you would think they could have hacked it by now?? Give me a piece of seaweed. When that gets wet, you know it's rained!!
Oh, and as soon as you've sown your carrots, you just know it's going to be dry for 2 weeks! = Tim
Got the sunny day I thought was going to be yesterday...!
Just not fair. Horrid day for my day off yesterday. Today I look out of the office window and it's glorious. Supposed to be yucky again at the weekend.
Still, yesterday I did manage a loooong ride without getting soaked (a few spots of rain, lots of wind to keep horse on his toes, and even a bit of sun on the way back). And in the afternoon I spent 90mins pottering about in the garden (mostly sowing seeds as after the ride I was knackered!) Then when I was sitting in the living room reading my wildlife gardening book it absolutely chucked it down. Not bad timing really!
It is absolutely lovely here in Caernarfon, perfect to do the lottie, but I have an evening class to go to....
Spent 4 hours digging at the plot!(bring on the radox!) Getting VERY tired of all those brambles, stones and clay, and my nettles are putting on a lovely show!! Hacked some back for the compost ;D Still have to start sowing seeds, so hope the forecast of great weather for the next few days holds true :) A very achey but happy DP
Beautiful day here today, spent the morning until 1.30 digging and preparing ground for peas/beans and tightening up the supports while Bill and son sawed and hammered making this carrot frame even more elaborate! Only needs a few carrot fly tho ...... ::)
