Hi everyone,
I'm starting my plan for next year and I have one small area of the plot that is in part shade.
Do any vegetables like shade?
I might use if for lettuce in high summer when they will appreciate the coolness but what should I plant before then?
Any ideas?
Oooh, good question, I'd be interested to know this too. I have quite a lot of shadey areas (or will have when I've done the digging!)
I agree on the lettuce, and spinach and chard do okay on my plot in the shade. Rasberries don't mind dappled shade as they are woodland plants. My rhubarb is also in dappled shade and does very well indeed.
Check out this list!

Thanks for the replies:
So plenty to choose from. I think I will have to resign myself to having a smaller yield in the shady places. This year I grew carrots and parsnips in the shady party. The parsnips were fine (although a little small) but the carrots virtually rotted in the ground due to the soil being wet most of the time.
I would add rocket to the above list. Ours copes right through winter with no direct sun and extreme cold and yet it's so expensive to buy. Leeks and Japanese onions do well too.
You could always have a pretty bit with spring bulbs and foxgloves etcetera!
;D
