thank you thank you thank you!!! What a sensational gift idea. You've save me so much stress

I think you should be aware that when your friends know you've got one (presumably you've got a cd writer too), they'll be queueing round the block wanting their lp collections copied. Also bear in mind that OH may spend all of Christmas day stuck in the loft

You could go for versatility by buying a standard turntable instead and using the line-in socket on your soundcard. That way you can also use it with your hi-fi.

I have never heard of these before, I do not need one, but is there a similar gadget that will do tapes.

I see these jobbies on sale.
I would dearly love to transpose my LP/tape collection onto my PC.
Trouble is, my hifi is downstairs & my pc is upstairs?

For tapes, all you need is an output from your hi-fi to the line-in on your soundcard. Ideally use Adobe Audition to record onto your PC. Unfortunately, many hi-fis don't have Aux Out. If anyone wants tapes/vinyl transferring to CD I'm happy to do it. Who knows, with over 2000 Cds plus around 15,000 tracks on my PC I may already have it.

I kept the turntable from my old Technics setup and bought a little preamp from Maplins for a tenner, I started full of good intentions but copying all my vinyl would take around 2 years at a guess, then cleaning & filtering ::)

It's great for saving the tracks that I can't find elsewhere though
