Title: Digging Deep
Post by: Trixiebelle on November 28, 2006, 20:39:36
Did anyone see that programme this evening?

What a pile of s**te!

I tuned in an hour too early to see the Golden Eagles with Bill Oddie and saw a couple of IDIOTS decemating a garden.  ???

This has been mentioned before and yes, we all agreed that it was POOP!  I watched the first one, and then caught one of the others and it was painful to watch.

Bill Oddie on the other hand is just FAB!  I love his enthusiasm about nature in all it's forms.  And what was that Eagle up to bothering that poor deer!  Amazing stuff.

positively dreadful programme - I was unlucky to catch some of last weeks ... the presenters are enough to freak anyone out.

And the most awful thing about these awful reviews?

I'm now compelled to tune in next week (for at least a few minutes) so I can see for myself just how appalling this programme is!  ;D

i don't understand that really. i think everyone should have a TV. i'm a 90s child and watching TV and playing computer games were all kids did. But i don't watch it more than an hour a day really. and that's only programs like planet earth....or GW...

it can be very very educational.....and it has a lot to offer than crap programs like digging deep. you just have to look for them.

lol. i've no idea how to find out if they have. i don't watch POV religiously.....so maybe they've already showed it? or maybe it wasn't worded all that well....or maybe they've not had any other complaints (which i very much doubt).

HAHAHAAHAH TRIXIE!  You did make me larf!  I watched King Bill again tonight on how to watch wildlife where he was up to his armpits in murky water looking for raft spiders!  He rocks!

And don't apologise, the program is such tripe it is worth mentioning again, and triffid, it is well worth tuning in for a larf and cringe!

As you would expect, there have been numerous strongly worded threads on this programme on the beeb boards. We had 2 participants join in which was excellent. My view is that although you can argue about whether the end result was good, bad or indifferent, but the 2 'designers' completely dominated the show in a bad way & totally detracted from the reasons for the re-designs.

We hope, vainly I expect, that the views expressed get back to the programmes producers. Some people also wrote to POV & a complaint was read out after the first week's programme.

I always have a bit of a wrestle with tele ownership, I am dead against sitting watching tripe for hours on end, and we spend most of the warmer months sitting in the conservatory listening to music.  But I also know that the tele has formed a large part of my life, if it wasn't for Geoff Hamilton, I don't think I would have very much interest in gardening at all.  As you say, picking and choosing, and limiting time spent in front of the "box" is prolly the best option for me.

In my mind Bill Oddie is still in the Goodies last had a tv in 1979... which sort of dates me a bit!
;D
and the bit I really don't get Wahaj is why people have a problem with me not wanting a tv... I teach kids off the Braunstone and they just can't get their heads round it at all!

I don't think anybody has a problem with your choice of not having a tv, but  when I am reading these threads you give the impression that you have a problem with us watching it. Sorry, but your posts make you seem a bit smug and we are all mindless idiots for having one.

I have cable tv with the choice of nearly 100 chanels to watch. A lot of them are mindless drivel, but they are far outweighed with some very informative chanels. News 24 is on as I type as it saves me getting a comic newspaper.

Now we all know that your comments about tv are not malicious and I am not having a go at you, it is just the way it comes over.

Most of my life I've not had a tele and you know what? I'm really missing that yearly round-robin snail mail TVLA and I used to exchange around Christmastime (the time my previous licence became defunct)....them just NOT believing I'd chosen to not replace my set when it nosedived down a flight of stairs when I was repositioning furniture after a decorating stint...

Then, 6 years ago, someone bought me a television AND a video recorder..so I bought a licence and the fun stopped :'(

And guess what? When/if there's a need to replace my current set-up, due to digitalization(such a word?).....I ain't gonna bother, and the correspondence will resume....

Oh! what joy ::)

btw.....Gardeners' Question Time, Radio4, Sunday afternoon...... still rocks

Not you lot Ace but the kids I teach... live your own life. I shall be at MIL's and friends this weekend and will probably watch some TV but not 9Celebrity) Strictly Come Dancing!
Watch as much or as little as you want.... OH and I don't get a comic(Newspaper) either though I do look at the cartoons when there is one on the Bar in the Pub!
::)
Sorry Lishka didn't see the spill over onto page two... we used to send those letters back regularly(about ten years) with "Do not have a TV" on them, eventually the sent a very polite giant to ask if he could have a look in the house... we could technically have said no.. but he only looked in the living room, even though we offered him a complete tour. They then sent us a letter saying they would not bother us for the next five years and they have kept their word!

Grrh!  Since I have moved flat and the last peeps bought a license, cos they were required to, have been bombarded with threatening letters.  Have telephone, written, contacted housing association who have done the same and still they come!

I pay the license through my service charge on top of my rent!  You would think that, when you take the trouble to write to tell them this, get the housing association to tell them the same, they would get the message!  But, no, still getting enforcement threatening letters!  What on earth else should I do? :-\

Wind em up. Muds, wind em up!!  8) ;D ;D ;D

Me, when I'd had a period of having a TV then NOT having a TV, I created a whole new family for myself.....think dementing mother moving in with budgie and TV, then mother being moved out to nursing home & budgie being re-homed, etc.etc.etc.......tell you, not had so much fun since the Old King died...... 8).....all untrue of course, but SUCH FUN!!
