Title: Thinning onions
Post by: OliveOil on November 26, 2006, 09:54:44
I have some Ailsa Craig (i think anyway LOL) onions in (from seeds) most are the size of a slim pencil... should i thin them now? how much should i leave between each plant? Can i replant the thinnings or just eat them?

My seeds are doing far better than the sets i put in too!

They'll make good 'spring onions' now.

Don't know, but worried about a non-overwintering variety being so well adanced?  If I'm wrong, then replant to 2-4" apart - depending upon what size onions you like.

Was def an overwintering onion... so perhaps not ailsa craig, maybe a japanese OW onion... packets look the same and my memory with names is rubbish.

i'll thin them out next weekend.  They are certainly looking good though :)
