Ooo!
Inspired now... have ordered mammoth onion seed in the hope that they taste as good as they look ;D
is it true that they don't store as well as smaller ones, that's what we were told, or are they just for showing ?
Don't know, manicscousers: tune in, same time, same place next year and I'll tell you how they're going (if they haven't all been eaten!) ;D
The thing that attracted me (apart from the novelty value of growing a truly ginormous onion variety) is that according to Robinson's, 'Mammoth Improved has a very sweet flavour'
And another useful nugget of info from their cultivation notes:
Quote'Onions will store better if harvested with a little growth left in the plant.'
I like the look of them also . Will be going for the leaks next year and the cabbage.
Quoteis it true that they don't store as well as smaller ones
Yes, it's true
