Title: I'm in trouble....again!
Post by: kenkew on November 22, 2006, 10:48:40
An adult member of my 'adopted' Flemish family had an accident when she was quite young. She damaged her two front teeth and following bad dentistry they have been discoloured all her life. This year, her father has promised to pay for the replacement of those teeth as a Christmas present. She's pretty chuffed and excited about it; well; me being how I am tried to get into the swing of all this excitment and started singing, 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.....'. Phew! Went down like a lead balloon. They all accused me of making up the song to have a go at her. I tried to explain it used to be a popular song in England many years ago and it was just a bit of fun; alas, the damage was done. Now they all look at me sideways and hardly speak to me.
(Thank goodness for my doggy!)

I used to have a couple of discoloured front teeth from their having been poorly repaired after a motorbike accident. Namissa made such a fuss about them that in the end I took advantage of free dentistry while we were both studying to get them fixed. I hope I never had to go through that again; they ached on and off for ages from having the real teeth ground down for the caps.

Whoops!
Don Gardner has penned the carol 'All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth' and it was first published in 1946. It has almost become a trend with every generation to introduce a new humorous Christmas song that is a parody of this song. In UK, a British comedienne named Dora Bryan recorded a parody on this song in sixties that said, "All I want for Christmas is a Beatle" and it was so funny that in became an instant hit.
Not so sure who sang it first of all then.

Ken - get hold pf e-mule: http://www.downloadzonefree.com/emuleant (http://www.downloadzonefree.com/emuleant) Then you can get the song from here: http://www.filehash.com/search/all+i+want+for+christmas/::ad (http://www.filehash.com/search/all+i+want+for+christmas/::ad) and you can show them that it is a real song and that you did not make it up. :)

To add to all that, I was in the situation all those years ago when I did need my two front teeth for Christmas and they had the cheek to arrive late!  I was singing that song so much I think my parents wanted to give me away until they arrived :D

How's about showing them these posts so that they realise you weren't making fun but just doing what hundreds of British kids do ad in finitum when they lose their front teeth at such a crucial time!

Best of luck :)
