just think, all that free fertiliser laying around on the ground !!, I think I'm getting wierd about leaves, can't go past them without wanting to put them in a bag !!

But why are the Maple leaves all grotty yellowy brown this year?
no idea, everything else is getting blamed on the weather so, lets go with that !! :D
I love it that we have just had an instant autumn. The leaves are no longer stubbornly green here in Sussex, but suddenly bright yellow and falling. The difference over the last week is stunning.
Can I ask - do the leaves have to be dry when they go into the black bags? It's just that there are loads of leaves near my house but they are a bit soggy after a few days rain. If they can go in wet I might 'tidy up the neighbourhood' and get myself some free compost! ;D kitten x
i thought you had to have them wet ::)
wet & put some soil in there as well, which will help decomposition & punch some holes in the bag. 8)
I got 8 bags from the front garden today blown from over the way. Mix of birch, maple, sycamore, oak....and some other, dunno what they are..
There is a park at the end of my street, so yesterday Gordon and I filled two large black bags with leaves from the street just outside the entrance. Lovely stuff. One bag went to mulch the raspberries, the other is hidden behind an evergreen bush for a year. Next week we plan on filling another couple of sacks. Will add some to the composters and try to find a hiding place for the rest 8) 8).

if they're dry, add some liquid human waste or recycled beer and cider, as bob flowerdew calls it, wet is best, and compressed !! :)

I also am weird, :P I don't seem to notice anything else around me except lovely leaves and carry plastic bags where ever I go ::)
had a lorry load of manure delivered on Sat,in my opinion more exciting than diamonds ;D

I have rellies and friends collecting them for me! (6 bags arrived yesterday, more to come!)
Am in the process of building a lasagna bed, so require a few bags for that and the rest are going towards making leaf mould too! 8)
I'm like that about compost as well, don't know if I'm making up for all the years when I was told not to get dirty
now, there's nothing I like better than getting my hands in soil, weeding or planting, makes no difference :)
;D ;D I thought it was just me with the leaves, can't walk past them without wanting to pick them up, the OH thinks I'm barmy even took some coloured ones home for kids to paint print or just stick them in a scrapbook she thinks I'm stashing them for myself. ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Daft question, but do they have to be Black bags?
Due to the generosity of charity collectors, I have white and pink ones full of leaves, will they rot down ok or do I need to transfer them to propoer black bags. It would be a fun job!
am interested too. kindly neighbour donated 6 bags worth which are blue ! :-\

is it because they started to decompose on the tree before it was cold enough for them to drop off?

:) I think you might be right Wahaj, mine are in black bags I don't know why maybe to exclude the light. ? Cant believe I missed out on ten more bags of leaves today OH saw them outside works carpark but was too embarrassed :-[ to take them because people were around GUTTED :'( :'( :'(

my really huge tree has smothered about 2-3 inches of leaves allover the 3 parking spaces we have in front of the house. so many leaves...so little time lol.
They'll rot down in any colour of bag, but be careful as some might not be UV resistant. You don't want the bag disintegrating the way a Tesco's carrier bag does after a while.
they heat up nicely in black :)
