Title: marigold flower heads
Post by: manicscousers on November 16, 2006, 22:01:58
if anyone still has some of these flowers on their plants, I could do with a good handful of petals  I've actually ran out and need some for my marigold ointment, if you want to swap, just let me know what you want and I will see what I've got   :)

I've just dried some from my plants. Pm me and I'll send you some. I wish I'd seen this earlier as I could have saved a lot more.

it's not the seed I'm after, it's the petals, thanks anyway, will have to plant more next year, ours are finished,  :)

it's a recipe for marigold ointment, got it from a magazine, makes brill lipsalvs and good for small cuts and grazes, spcially for sore bits on fingers from weeding without gloves, which I do all too often, make that and lavender cream for hard skin on feet, seems to work  ;D

certainly

gently heat 150 ml, or 5 fl oz of olive oil, 25g or 1 oz beeswax until they melt together, either a double boiler or, my method, in the microwave with a cover on,
add a good handful of dried marigold leaves and simmer for 115 mins, I only gave them 5 mins on defrost in said micro,
have a seive and cheesecloth handy
strain it straight in to jars as it will start to harden as soon as you take it off the heat.
"it is used for all rough skin, scrapes and grazes and as a lip salve"

I use lots of lip salve as I tend to get cold sores and this is brilliant for keeping lips soft and moisturised  :D

Thank you very much Marilyn,I'm sure I have beeswax lurking here somewhere. I assume it's the same for lavender?

no, sorry,I don't know what lavender oil would do to your mouth.. I had to go so here's the secret to lavender cream

have you ever heard of aqueous cream, from the chemist, about £1.50 for a big tub,  I found out about it when I had a bad reaction to sun tan cream, I was buying e 45 and it was still itchy
the chemist recommended this as it is very safe

I can't give you amounts but I use as much lavender essential oil to give me the scent I want and some cypress oil as that's good for dry skin, could also use carrot oil and probably others,
I make a big tub up at once
don't go walking around on a slippy surface as it's incredibly creamy
