Post by: the_snail on November 15, 2006, 07:47:19
I have got quite a number of onion sets to plant out and I was wondering if there is stil time to plant out the japanese variets senshyu yellow? I have not been down the allotment due to personal reasons and the weather which has not helped.

Also is there still time for garlic?

Thanks

Do it quick and if the weather doesn't turn cold they should be OK. The onions may not be so big though.

Given that mine ended up enormous last year - seriously large beasts - a little later planting is probably ok - I found that the huge onions meant that either everything ha more onions in it than anything else, or they ended up in the compost!

Just to let you all know I planted them on November 15, 2006. It took me 6 hours. Thats digging the bed to planting the onions and garlic. It was a good day out. The sun was warm but it did go cloudy. It was a very pleasent day for the time of year.
