Title: Controlling pests with vegetable oil/ Grape vine help needed
Post by: Ricado on November 14, 2006, 18:53:07
Does anyone have experience of using oils for organic pest control.

We have identified mealybugs on the grape vines, but unsure exactly what to use and how to spray.  Is is worth mixing with savona for extra effect ?

Any ideas gratefully received.  Are there any grape vine experts out there ?

thanks

Oils will kill pests by blocking their breathing holes (technically spiracles). Soapy water will kill just as effectively though, and it penetrates better.

There are quite a few places online selling predators for controlling mealy bug in glasshouses, if you google " mealy bug control ". haven't had this problem myself though. Sprays containing imidacloprid will do the trick if you want to use chemicals.
