Title: Rotasieve
Post by: Lady of the Land on November 13, 2006, 21:09:11
Does anyone have experience of using a rotasieve to sieve compost?

There are several companies selling them, but the price seems to vary by quite a bit. Stud house do not give a price but says this is the authentic rotasieve. Archwood selling for £61.00, Harrod Horticulture £39.95 ( not sure whether includes postage)and Ferndale Lodge £44.95 plus £3.95 P&P.

I am thinking about christmas presents

I do indeed.  :)  I got mine from Harrod Hort. and it is so much easier on the back than using a hand-held sieve. But for those who don't have back problems , I'd say hand sieving is quicker.  This is because the legs are very short so you have to sieve the compost onto a ground sheet then transfer it into a container.  You can't really stand it in the container unless you are only sieving a very small quantity, or unless you have a very wide container (which I don't).  I hope that makes sense.   ;D

Thank you Georgie.
I must admit I assumed it would be quicker and easier. With the hand sieve I find my arms ache holding sieve out in front of me and action of shaking from side to side. l also tried just holding sieve and using my hand to move compost about over sieve holes ( but then find pressure of hands someimes allows larger particals through holes) .If anyone else has any opinions or ideas I would be grateful.
