Do they continue growing as mine are still very small and alot of them have blown?
we were told to take the top bit out so the sprouts grow, also to take off the blown ones and stamp down around the stalks, maybe stake them as they like growing in hard soil, seems to have worked for ours :)
Stamping & staking should have been done months ago?
Take the top bit out - you mean the gourmet bit of the plant?
a. It protects from frost.
b. But it is the most delectable bit of all & must be eaten when it's just well formed.
Blown ones? Well, you take off ALL up to the not formed ones? And they taste the same.
Yes - they will grow on for months - depending upon variety.
it was done months ago, some of them had worked a bit loose due to heavy wind, also stakes were in when they got to 12" tall, just thought rosy might not have done
:) also, the gourmet bit gets eaten, not wasted
I don't think i'll be eating the tops as they have been eaten well and don't look that good. As well as a house for white fly too.
Wish I had staked - most of my PSB & Sprouts have as much horizontal stem as vertical.
Quotemost of my PSB & Sprouts have as much horizontal stem as vertical
Mine too, as usual
one of the early half tall is about 4 feet tall, don't know why :)
