Trying to plan my potato order
Family of 4 - eat pots 2-3 times a week
how many kg's of 1st earlies, 2nd earlies and mains do you think i should order to last us a year?
I've estimated 3kg 1st, 3kg 2nd and 9 kg mains... am i nearly right? or way out?
That sounds about right to me.
Scanning through for info, thought this was rather good. Then saw who it was by!!

We are three adults and I plant 3kg Rocket 1st early ,3Kg Kestel 2nd, and 3Kg cara as main crop. We usually get through until April but it really depends on how good a crop you get.
We have two teenage boys and frequent friends to stay.. We put in 6kgs of firsts about the same of Seconds and@ 15kgs of mains... tend to go for taste rather than yeild... and always try a few that we haven't tried before from Ryton Potato day..
;D

Spot on with the opinion on "Mimi" :'(
I think it tends to depend on how much space you have to plant them and then how well they do - often it is the main crops that can disappoint in yield due to the length of time in ground and the potential for blight etc but your choice seems good to me especially with 9kg of main crop - should keep you going until the new year :)

Why only 2-3 times a week ???!!!
Phil
Seriously, on average (and tuber sizes vary hugely) 3kg will give you enough for ~15m of row and (again on average) produce ~120kg of maincrop spuds, that's 5 25kg sacks
Your 1st and 2nd earlies should give around ~25kg from 5m of row
My mains don't crop that well Phil... but I just plant more!...
::)
I did say average !!! ;)
You've been on holiday again, Phil??
Yes at a place called work!! I wish I was retired (like some) and had more time for the enjoyable bits ;)
I've also been heavily involved in creating a town website http://thewhitchurchweb.org (http://thewhitchurchweb.org) which takes a bit of time I've just added some seed catalogue information as a result of a thread elsewhere http://thewhitchurchweb.org/seeds (http://thewhitchurchweb.org/seeds)

Hobby? Jive dancing?
Seeds etc? A really great reference - ought to be in Wikis?
